ALFAJERรA PALACE

DARLY - LIFESTYLE BLOG

Hello my lovely readers ๐Ÿ™‚ Howโ€™s everything going?

A few months ago I went with my friends to Zaragoza, a big city in the middle-north of Spain. So me and a friend decided to go to the Alfajerรญa Palace, whichย is a fortified medieval Islamic palace built during the second half of the 11th century. Since we are students the ticket was only 1โ‚ฌ and we also had a free tour. If you go to Zaragora in Winter make sure to bring some worm clothes with you, because itโ€™s really cold.

As you can see in this picture it looks like a Christian palace outside, doesnโ€™t it look like a fairy tale palace? The hole palace it a great mixture between Islamic and Christian style, so it creates a very special combination.

Once on the inside you find this beautiful Islamic style yard with beautiful arcs, orange trees and lots ofโ€ฆ

How could we curb Venezuela’s hyperinflation?

Shrey's Notepad

Look at this note.

As you might have guessed, itโ€™s a note worth 10,000 Venezuelan bolรญvars. That seems like a lot, right? Iโ€™m a nice guy; Iโ€™ll give it to you. Go buy yourself a nice TV or something.

Whatโ€™s that? They said you donโ€™t have enough money?

Precisely.

As of July 27, 2016, this seemingly valuable note is worth just over one dollar (itโ€™s almost definitely worth less by the time youโ€™ll read this). In the UK, it wouldnโ€™t be enough to buy you a Flake ice cream. This is because of the rapid hyperinflation thatโ€™s occurring in the South American country, leaving it in a tumultuous spiral of poverty, withย some not even having enough to pay for essentials such as food or heating. A recent Bloomberg report even suggested that the Venezuelan government is running out of money to print money, such isโ€ฆ

MTA’s subway car RFP includes provision to encourage U.S. job creation

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s (MTA) request for proposals (RFP) for the purchase of 1,025 new subway cars features a “U.S. employment plan,” which includes incentives aimed at encouraging manufacturers to create jobs, advocacy group Jobs to Move America (JMA) announced yesterday.

Developed by JMA, the plan also is aimed at creating a “career pipeline” for low-income and communities of color. Including the plan in the proposal could help support more than 33,000 United States-based jobs, JMA officials said in a press release.

“Adopting this plan, which includes a jobs disclosure and evaluation tool for the purchase of these trains, will not only improve New York’s transit system, it will also create good jobs and revive manufacturing in our communities that need it the most,” said JMA Deputy Director Linda Nguyen.

The U.S. employment plan has three parts: a disclosure, which asks companies to detail the number and quality of U.S. jobs on a contract; evaluation, which provides a scoring method for transit agencies to evaluate competing proposals from manufacturing companies; and implementation, which legally obligates companies to implement their proposed employment plan.

This spot in Chicago is the epitome of a more than $100 billion problem facing America

A freight train more than 10,000 feet long, hauling hundreds of shipping containers, sits idle in residential Chicago. It’s the middle of the afternoon, and the CSX train is just parked there. Waiting.

At this stretch of railroad, known as the 75th Street Corridor, that scene plays out day after day. Freight trains spend hours waiting for commuter and Amtrak trains to clear a single intersection, blocking their path and preventing the delivery of goods.

The corridor sits in an urban neighborhood southwest of downtown Chicago. It’s widely considered the worst choke point for rail movement in the city, which is the busiest rail hub in the nation. With hundreds of billions of dollars in goods traveling through Chicago by rail every year, each minute those freight trains are stalled, companies and consumers alike are losing money or being forced to spend more for the goods those trains haul.

Down the track from the stationary CSX train, a Metra commuter train rumbles through the worst part of the corridor: Forest Hill Junction, a six-track intersection shared by Amtrak, commuter, and freight rail. A few minutes later, another Metra train rolls through. Because these commuter trains run perpendicular to the track the freight train uses โ€” and almost always have the right of way โ€” the freight has to wait.

“It really is the Gordian knot of Chicago that has to be untangled,” Tom Livingston, a CSX vice president for government affairs, told Business Insider. “It would be like two major interstates meeting each other at a four-way stop sign.”

After a half hour or so, a whistle rings out. The freight train shudders and groans as the conductor nudges it into motion. Finally, slowly, it’s back on its way, moving goods through the city.

“It really is impactful on the entire nation in terms of moving traffic through,” Livingston said. “You have freight moving at every point on the compass, and a lot of it.”

Faster Trains Needed To Connect With California High Speed Rail

ntbraymer

By Noel T. Braymer

The secret to any successful transportation system is access to the largest number markets possible. Thatโ€™s why major cities are always at major transportation junctions such as at harbors, where major rivers meet, at the base of mountain passes or major road junctions. The same is true for High Speed Rail, particularly in California. There are already plans to have connections to California High Speed Rail with Metrolink and Pacific Surfliner trains in Southern California. There will be a connection to the San Joaquin trains with High Speed Rail at Madera. At San Jose there will be High Speed Rail connections to Caltrain, BART, ACE and Capitol Corridor trains. There are also plans to connect and share tracks with future High Speed Rail service to Las Vegas from Los Angeles.
