Graeme McDowell has retained the French Open as the overnight leader Kevin Stadler let a four shot lead slip in the final round. McDowell carded a final found of 67 to reach 5 under par and  win by one shot. Stadler and Thongchai Jaidee both finished on four under.

Graeme McDowell successfully defends French Open after overturning eight-shot deficit to win

  • McDowell recorded his first ever successful defense of a title
  • The Northern Irishman closed with a 67 to win at Le Golf National
  • American Kevin Stadler blew a four-shot overnight lead
  • Stalder missed a par putt on the 18th which would have forced play-off
  • British Open Championship begins on July 17 at Royal Liverpool Golf Club, I am again picking Graeme
Speaking of the British Open, wonder how some golf journalists get to become golf journalists.
Just saw one who “thinks” the British Open will be a “Tiger and Phil” contest.
Gee. It sounds great, but Tiger will probably twist his left index finger (or something just as weird) and have to withdraw. Poor Phil will continue his latest “putting thing” where he “might” sink a put over 10 feet, but “probably” miss one between 5 and 10 feet. Nothing against either guy, but always remember: The old gray mare ain’t what it used to be”. Please note: the “old gray mare” thing does NOT apply to Tom Watson!
